CBD for Arthritis [Cannabinoids Prevent Various Types of Arthritis]

CBD Oil for Arthritis

Scientists are actively conducing research on CBD for arthritis.  In effect, scientists believe CBD and arthritis pain is just as relevant as other types of pain.  A variety of studies involving CBD and arthritis have revealed even more exciting news, though.  Not only do cannabinoids help to relieve pain associated with various types of arthritis, they also work to prevent the progression of these crippling conditions.

Scientists induced arthritis and CBD oil helped prevent its progression.

A research team at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology in Hammersmith, London, United Kingdom, conducted a study concerning CBD for arthritis.  (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10920191)

Mice handlers injected mice with collagen-induced-arthritis (CIA) and waited for the onset of symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.  Once treatment began, the mice displayed fewer symptoms of arthritis.  Not only did CBD treatment prevent the onset of arthritis, it prevented long-term joint damage in the mice receiving it.

Understanding arthritis helps to understand why CBD for arthritis works.

An individual with arthritis experiences fluctuating levels and types of pain throughout each day.  When a person with arthritis moves, current joint damage or inflammation could be causing nociceptive fibers to send shockwaves to the brain.  Consequently, the brain works harder to try to protect joints from more pain. Sadly, the result is just more pain.  Synapses and neurotransmitters go haywire.  Ultimately, the end result is painful inflammation. CBD for arthritis may help prevent this hyperactivity in the joint tissue and its communication with the brain.

A team of researchers in Canada conducted a study on CBD for arthritis. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21683763)

In this study, they discovered that a CBD analogue identified as O-1602 communicated with nociceptive receptor GPR55.  The receptor actually sent less ‘danger’ signals to the brain.  Therefore, mice in the study experienced less arthritic pain with CBD treatment.

Inflammation and nerve damage are consequences of osteoarthritis, and CBD oil reduces pain and slows progression.

Another team of scientists in Canada also had success with a study related to CBD for arthritis.  (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28885454)

Medical researchers treated rats with CBD after inoculating them with osteoarthritis.  CBD treatment prevented progression of arthritis in the rats.  Furthermore, CBD therapy provided neuroprotection that defended against long-term damage caused by inflammation.

A research team in Spain prepared a review of osteoarthritis and CBD.  (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24494687)

The team made a list of findings in relation to CBD and osteoarthritis, in particular.  Much inline with what other scientists had already discovered, this team mentioned the endocannabinoid system and not only its neuro-protective properties, but its anti-inflammatory activity, as well.

Millions suffer from the pain of arthritis.  As more knowledge of the endocannabinoid system emerges, CBD for arthritis treatments may become more commonplace.
